Open Question: Did the early Chritian Monks actually Venerate Pope's Dung?

I was reading a comic, sandman, a story named Ramadan which tells about Baghdad in a sort of mystical context (in which it's The Jewel City, The Heavenly City). It begins telling the many kinds of sages, wisemen and such that the lord of the city had gathered, and which called my attention is the Christian Monks, described as following: "...And the greatest Monks of the pale Christians (A dirty folk, who will not bathe, and who venerate the dried dung of their leader, whom they call the pope)..." and if i remember correctly, that's all it says about them, since the story focuses on the city itself. I know that, in early stages, christianism was a lot different than today, but, is that right? did they really venerate Pope's dung? or is it some kind of metaphor?... Read More »
